THE ANCIENT ORDER OF FORESTERS
The Ancient Order of Foresters was a friendly society founded in 1834. Members paid a few pence per week into a fund and were able to claim financial assistance when they became ill, or needed help with funeral costs. It is not yet known where the Foresters held their meetings.
The memorial is now held by the Macclesfield Silk Museums Trust.
The wooden-framed printed card shown below lists the names of forty-two members of the Ancient Order of Foresters who died in the first world war – some added by hand after the card was printed.
