Five-Day Tour to Battlefields of WWI in France and Belgium
Wednesday 17th to Sunday 21st October 2018
Macclesfield Great War Commemoration Society has planned, in association with Roy McCarthy Coaches, a five day coach tour visiting several major WWI sites in Belgium and France.
The tour has been organised by a local military history expert who will travel with the party, and the coach will depart from and return to Macclesfield.

Day 1: Wednesday 17th October – Outward Travel
Macclesfield to Dover by coach; Dover to Calais by ferry; Calais to Ypres by coach with one visit (Mont Cassell or Brandhoek, depending on the weather and time available).
Arrive at Flanders Lodge Hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Thursday 18th October – Ypres area
A full day tour of the major sites in the Ypres Salient, including a visit to the Passchendaele Memorial Museum and Zonnebeke. Lunch break en route at either the Hooge Crater Café & Museum or the Chateau at Zonnebeke. Return to the Flanders Lodge Hotel for dinner. Evening attendance at the 8pm Menin Gate Ceremony, followed by a second night at the Flanders Lodge Hotel.
Day 3: Friday 19th October – Arras and Vimy Ridge
Coach to Arras for a morning visit to the Wellington Quarry, or free time in the city for shopping and sightseeing. Make your own arrangements for lunch, for example at the Grand Place in Arras. Afternoon tour to Vimy Ridge, the French National Cemetery and memorial at Notre Dame de Lorette and the Loos battlefield. Dinner and overnight stay at the Novotel Lens Noyelles Hotel.
Day 4: Saturday 20th October – The Somme
A full day tour of the major sites on the Somme battlefield, including the Thiepval Memorial and Visitor Centre, with a lunch break en-route at the Old Blighty Café, La Boisselle. Return to the Novotel Lens Noyelles Hotel for dinner and a second overnight stay.
Day 5: Sunday 21st October – Homeward Travel
Depart from Novotel Lens Noyelles Hotel after breakfast. Travel by coach to Calais; Calais to Dover by ferry; Dover to Macclesfield by coach.
5 Days, 4 nights accommodation
The price will include:
* all travel by Roy McCarthy coach
* Dover-Calais ferry crossing
* Half-board (dinner, bed and breakfast) accommodation for four nights, based on two people sharing a twin or double room.
£504 per person, based on a minimum booking of 25 passengers.

Nights 3 and 4 at the Novotel Hotel, Lens Noyelles
N.B. Personal travel insurance, lunches and entrance fees to museums are NOT included. All visits to museums are optional.
