Ernest Norbury, Private 10612, “C” Coy, 1st/6th Bn. Cheshire Regiment
Killed in action 28th March 1918 in France, aged 32

 

EARLY LIFE

Ernest Norbury was born in Broken Cross, Macclesfield, in 1886. He was the brother of Mrs Sarah Ann Barker (nee Hilton), of 14 Barker Street, Macclesfield, Cheshire.

 

MILITARY SERVICE

Ernest Norbury was stated to be missing on 28 March 1918 and was later assumed to have been killed in action on or shortly after that date.

 

COMMEMORATION

Private Ernest Norbury is commemorated on Panel Ref. 35 and 36 of the Pozieres Memorial, France. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission holds casualty details for Private Ernest Norbury, and he is listed on the Imperial War Museum’s Lives of the First World War website.

In Macclesfield, Private Ernest Norbury is commemorated on the Park Green, Town Hall and St Michael’s Church war memorials.
