EARLY LIFE

In 1915, William Aldred married Emily Potts at St Paul’s Church, Macclesfield.

 

WW1 SERVICE

William Aldred enlisted in Macclesfield, initially serving with the Royal Engineers with service number 277477.

 

 

COMMEMORATION

Private William Aldred is buried in Grave Ref. IV. B. 17. of the Tincourt New British Cemetery, France. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission holds casualty details for Private William Aldred, and he is listed on the Imperial War Museum’s Lives of the First World War website.

In Macclesfield, William Aldred is commemorated on the Park GreenTown Hall and St Michael’s Church war memorials.
