Son of Mr. W. H. and Bertha Whittaker, of 79, King Edward St., Macclesfield.

COMMEMORATION

Lance Corporal Joseph Whittaker is buried in Grave Ref. I. A. 22. in Croisilles Railway Cemetery, France. His father asked for the following words to be added to his headstone:

HE NEVER FAILED TO DO HIS BEST
MAY GOD GRANT HIM ETERNAL REST

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission holds casualty details for Lance Corporal Joseph Whittaker, and he is listed on the Imperial War Museum’s Lives of the First World War website.

In Macclesfield, Lance Corporal Joseph Whittaker is commemorated on the Park Green, Town Hall and St Michael’s Church war memorials.
