Son of George and Sarah Ann Blackshaw, of 35, White St., Macclesfield; husband of Pollie Blackshaw, of 29, Duke St., Macclesfield, Cheshire.

COMMEMORATION

Corporal Sydney Blackshaw has no known grave and is commemorated on panel ref. Bay 4 and 5 of the Arras Memorial, France. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission holds casualty details for Corporal Sydney Blackshaw, and he is listed on the Imperial War Museum’s Lives of the First World War website.

In Macclesfield, Corporal Sydney Blackshaw is commemorated on the Park Green, Town HallSt Michael’s Church and St George’s Church war memorials. He is also remembered on a family gravestone in Macclesfield Cemetery, grave ref. I 6708. The memorial inscription reads:

IN LOVING MEMORY OF CPL SYDNEY BLACKSHAW WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION IN FRANCE MAY 3RD 1917 AGED 27 YEARS. ALSO MAY, THE BELOVED DAUGHTER OF THE ABOVE, WHO DIED NOV 18TH 1922 AGED 5 YEARS…
