EARLY LIFE

Son of Mrs John Pomfret, of Station St, Macclesfield; husband of Mrs Edith Pomfret, of 31 Church Side, Macclesfield.

WW1 SERVICE

 

COMMEMORATION

L/Cpl Joseph Pomfret has no known grave and is commemorated on Panel Ref. 19 of the Jerusalem Memorial, Israel. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission holds casualty details for L/Cpl Joseph Pomfret.

In Macclesfield, L/Cpl Joseph Pomfret is commemorated on the Park Green, Town HallSt Michael’s Church and the Mill Street Mission war memorials.

 

NOTES

Father of Pte Ellis Pomfret, who served with the 2/9th Manchester Regt and was killed in action in Belgium on 9 October 1917; and of Pte J W Pomfret, who also served with the 7th Cheshire Regt and is believed to have survived the war.
