Died 17th December 1916 in Somme, France, aged 44

 

EARLY LIFE

Son of Joseph and Elizabeth Brocklehurst, of Derby St., Macclesfield; husband of Charlotte Brocklehurst, of 3, Waterside, Macclesfield. Served in the South African Campaign. 19 years’ service.

COMMEMORATION

Private Charles Brocklehurst is buried in Grave Ref. IV. H. 10. in the Peronne Road Cemetery, Maricourt, Somme, France. His wife asked for a cross and the words “19 years service. Till we meet, warrior husband, sweetly sleep” to be added to his headstone.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission holds casualty details for Private Charles Brocklehurst.

In Macclesfield, Private Charles Brocklehurst is commemorated on the Park Green, Town Hall, and St Michael’s Church war memorials.
