His death was reported in the Macclesfield Times of 20 April 1917.

 

COMMEMORATION

Private Sam Rose is buried in Grave Ref. C. 27. in the Stump Road Cemetery, Somme, France. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission holds casualty details for Private Sam Rose, and he is listed on the Imperial War Museum’s Lives of the First World War website.

Locally, Private Sam Rose is commemorated on the Macclesfield Park Green and Town Hall war memorials, and on the Kerridge Oak Lane and Sunday School war memorials. His name is also listed on the new Bollington Palmerston Street war memorial.
