EARLY LIFE

Son of Mrs. Emma Davies, of 37 Pool Street, Sutton, Macclesfield.

 

WW1 SERVICE

The death of Sgt Davies was announced in the Macclesfield Times on 24 November 1916:

DAVIES – Killed in action, Oct 10th 1916, Acting-Sergeant Ernest Davies, only son of Mrs Davies, 37 Pool Street, Macclesfield, aged 19.

 

COMMEMORATION

Sgt Ernest Davies is buried in Grave Ref. VIII. D. 4. in the Courcelette British Cemetery, France. His mother asked for the words “Greater Love Hath” to be added to his gravestone.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission holds casualty details for Sgt Ernest Davies.

In Macclesfield, Sgt Ernest Davies is commemorated on the Park Green, Town HallSt Michael’s Church and St George’s Church war memorials and the Brunswick Wesleyan Church Roll of Honour.
