Son of W. Henry and Harriett Barber, of 65 Prestbury Road, Macclesfield, Cheshire.

News of his death was reported in the Macclesfield Times of 13 October 1916.
2nd Lieut George Barber is buried in Grave Ref. II. E. 4. of the Guards Cemetery, Lesboeufs, Somme, France. His father asked for the words “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die” to be added to his gravestone.

In Macclesfield, 2nd Lieut George Barber is commemorated on the Park Green, Town Hall, St Michael’s Church, Christ Church, Christ Church School and King’s School war memorials. He is also commemorated on a private plaque in Christ Church, erected by his widow.
